We here at BBC love to bring you fresh music, thats why we want to introduce you to a Brooklyn electronic DJ/producer who goes by the name Aman Ellis. Aman’s freshman release, All The Things, gained some momentum in early 2010 on Abstract Logic Recordings, receiving much praise from the music  community. Now, this Alabama native is fresh off of releasing his sophomore EP, Cacti, through ModyWorks Records. This is what he had to say about the release:

“So, this summer I started a project of psychedelic wonky beats. The production style was totally different that what I’m used to and it was an awesome experience and an experiment to get my brain outside the box. A lot of vinyl samples were used to make this record and it has a very distinct analog quality to it. Expect loose wonk drifting beats with a heavy dose of melody and scratchy samples.”

When you finally dig into the album you can hear the balance between the organic and electronic elements Aman Ellis sonically illustrates. At points you have these laid back glo-fi beats, while at others will have you in a crazy swirl of synths and fx.  Another thing that added to the sonic ambiance, was the fact that he uses a lot of vinyl samples in his work.

The 9 tracks on the EP weave together a mix intricate rhythms with the roots music of his southern upbringing that show what is possible with electronics. What I thought made this album interesting was the fact that all the intricate parts of the beats were glue together quite well to get these dark, but beautiful contemplative tracks with tons of melody; a sound that is uniquely his own.
