Any band named after our favorite day of the week, Friday, must be worth listening to. Florida experimental/ambient/etc outfit Viernes played in NYC last week in support of their debut album, Sinister Devices, which is out on iTunes. Their song “Sinister Love” is totally trippy – are you listening to two voices, or three? And where are they coming from? It evokes images of people looking at the sky, dumbstruck as a UFO is about to land. You feel surrounded but not scared. This song would definitely be the soundtrack to a cataclysmic event and not one that would signal the end of the human race, but one that would signal the next step in our evolution. National Geographic needs to cop this ish and use it in some of its astronomy programs.
