I re-discovered the power of the radio waves last night and in turn have found my new guilty pleasure. Ke$ha.
The electro/pop songstress popped onto the scene with her single Tik Tok about a month ago. She’s collaborated with the likes of Flo Rida on his song Right Round, The Veronica’s song This Love and with Katy Perry on her song I Kissed a Girl.
I read somewhere that Ke$ha is like Lada Gaga without restraint. I don’t know how you could say that Lady Gaga or Ke$ha has any restraint. They both represent the electro/pop genre in totally different ways. Both have no filter and while Gaga promotes out of the ordinary looks and, unity, yes I said unity. She brings together all people regardless of race, color or creed, Ke$sha defines “no boundaries” in a different way. I hate to use this term because it sounds so outdated but, she’s the “modern woman” and what I mean by that is, modern 20 something chill, liberal, punky, electro/pop party chick and unconventional. In other words, she isn’t prim, proper or “girly” in any traditional sense of the word.
Tik Toc is an awesome electro/pop track. If I heard it in a club, I’d definitely dance my ass off. It’s funny, upbeat, independent and is a perfect song to aid popular music in promoting the electro flavor like it has been doing with Lady Gaga, Yelle and Kid Cudi.
For more on Ke$ha, check out her myspace page and website. The video for Tik Tok is pretty cool too.
