“There is this thing that’s like talking except you don’t talk/you sing.” Thus opens the song, “Sing”, and my first introduction to the Dresden Dolls in music theory class in college. The self-described “Brechtian punk cabaret” duo consisting of drummer Brian Viglione and singer/pianist Amanda Palmer – who has established a successful solo career in her own right – have announced their first tour in three years.
During their hiatus, Palmer and Viglione ventured off into their own projects and even released a compilation album in 2008, No, Virgina… . While not more has been announced about future Dresden Doll projects, their fall tour will hopefully expose more people to their music and their theatrical live performances.
