English-Pakistani Bat for Lashes is my newest find. A friend emailed me asking to do a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire” and he sent the remake version Bat for Lashes had on her 2007 album, Fur and Gold, which was simply stunning.

Bat for Lashes is the stage name for 31-year-old Natasha Khan, whose latest album, 2009’s Two Suns, is considered her most experimental. The album centers on an alter ego named “Pearl” who Khan says she created while living in Brooklyn. The albums sound is also purported to be influenced by a lot of Brooklyn-based bands.
