If you know anything about world music or good punk music, you know Manu Chao. This man has traveled all over the world, collaborating and touring with many musicians, indeed even producing an album for the famous duo Amadou & Mariam. His oft-politically charged music transcends language; it’s not unusual to find Chao employing the use of multiple languages on one album or a song. Manu Chao has released his second live album with Radio Bemba Sound System called Baionarena. The live arrangements of his popular songs are fantastic; they are an energetic joy ride through the sounds of the many places and people Chao has encountered. His live performances encourage audience participation and you’ll hear (and see) audience members chanting and singing along as well as rocking out to some of the more uptempo songs. Manu Chao is one of the few artists that have kept the true spirit of punk alive: going against the status quo, standing for what you believe in, and rocking hard in the process. His kind of punk rock is inclusive of all and any kind of shindig that does not discriminate is, in my view, called a party.
You can purchase the double CD + DVD Baionarena set HERE.
Random factoid: My nom de plume comes from Manu Chao’s song “Bixo”. Check it!
