Anyone involved with music press will tell you that it’s nearly impossible to keep up with all the music that gets sent to your inbox each day. There seem to be more bands and public relations agencies than ever before, and it’s a full-time job just to listen to all the new stuff that comes through.
I don’t know why I opened the email sent by the PR folks that work with Favored Nations. I had never heard of the band. The subject line wasn’t anything special or eye-catching. Nothing out of the ordinary. I am very glad I did open the email, though, because I stumbled upon what turns out to be a bit of an indie supergroup. Surahn Sidhu used to be in The Swiss, one of my favorite disco bands, and James Curd has been putting out solid originals and remixes for years. Third member, Morgan Phalen, comes from the always fun The Phenomenal Handclap Band. This is an impressive group.
“Regular Pussy” is a disco-pop jam made for top-down convertible drives with a J in one hand and your girlie in the other. The band is finishing up their debut LP and getting set to tour later this year. I can’t wait.
