You may unlike BBC for saying this, but I have a soft spot for Hellogoodbye. Ever since I heard “Shimmy Shimmy Quarter Turn” from their last album, Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!, I was hooked. I don’t know what it was about the album, but it was pretty hard to get the tunes out of your head, it was on constant repeat back in the day. After being teased with a few tracks from the new album, Would It Kill You, I finally got my hands on it and took it for a few spins.

The first thing you will notice after listening to the new album is that Hellogoodbye has matured. Long gone are the catchy bubblegum electro-rock tunes, replaced with polished, well developed pop-rock. If you are a HG fan like me and are worried that you won’t like it, don’t fret, They still are the Hellogoodbye you’ve come to love. I sort of liken it to Panic! At The Disco’s swithroo. A complete 180, but 1000x better.

I’d have to say that the one thing that gives HG their unique sound is frontman Forrest Kline’s voice. Those lovely vocal chords craft perfect hooks/melody and this album is no different. The album is full of sing along tracks that are easy to take down. Of course the lyrics are about love, girls, heartbreak etc, but it just fits so well underneath their new sound that you got to love it.

Some highlights on the album incude the energetic opener, “Find Something To Do” the feel-good love song, “When We First Met”, the ukulele abundant “The Thoughts Gave Me The Creeps,” and “You Sleep Alone.”

At the end of all of this I have to say that If you like Hellogoodbye, this album won’t disappoint.
