Ian Marquis is no stranger to the music game. In the 10 years he has been involved with music, he has acted as a producer, arranger, guitarist, and singer, or as he likes to call himself,  a “one man band.” Ian sent us over a copy of his latest release, Faces from the Static, and said that it’s a mix of the best parts of  80s/90’s music (big synths, reverb/delay drenched mixes and huge guitars) while adding a punch of modern production. When we heard that we knew we had to check it out. Glad we did.

When listening to Face from the Static you get a mix of new wave, electro rock, alt rock, with a heavy dose of pop courtesy of catchy melodies and excellent arrangements. From the lead track of the album, “Hide And Seek” you will know exactly what I’m talking about, those arpegiated lead synths gently guide us into his musical territory slowly building us up for the moment when his pop-centric drums bring the song to life. This fusion of electronic,  90’s alt-rock and pop continues through most of the album, giving you a nice alt-pop album, something you don’t find a lot these days. Some highlights from the album include, “Underground,” “Venus Aphasia” and “Hide and Seek.

Check out the tune “Venus Aphasia” below and if you dig, you can pick up the album from his Bandcamp page.

enjoY!
