The alwasy busy electronic-pop duo, YACHT, are getting ready to record their follow up to their awesome debut, Mystery Lights, for DFA. In the meantime they did a cover version of influential 70’s punk rock band X‘s track, “Nausea” for the BBC. Yacht has turned out a stripped down, in-the-groove version of the song while keeping the true-to-the-original vocals that are definitely on par with X front woman, Exene Cervenka.

YACHT had this to say about covering “Nausea”:

“X has long been one of YACHT’s favorite bands. Doing a cover of their “Nausea” allowed us to lay hands, albeit momentarily, on the very structure of their greatness. To get lost inside a song we love, a song immortalized in our minds for its chaotic and sludgy performance in the opening credits of The Decline of Western Civilization. We wear Nausea like a cloak, a little ill-fitting perhaps, but draped with reverence.”

You can catch YACHT live with their backing band, The Straight Gaze, when they play a free show at NYC’s South Street Seaport and an LA date opening for Chemical Brothers and Chromeo at the Hollywood Bowl.
