Expo is simple. One guy (John Lane) and a bunch of friends chilling out making some lazy day music. He has just released his latest album, She Sells Seashells (say that 10x fast) independently which apparently was mastered in mono.

First thing you’ll notice while listening to his music are the similarities to The Beach Boys and that 70’s style pop-rock. You’ll hear really pretty chord progressions that give off this dreamy, laid back vibe. Then you have the organ that adds a little mystery to the sound without making it too creepy. Another thing I dig about the sound is the vocal work. Lane has this soft reserved voice that when added with multiple harmonies and generous amounts of reverb, you get something that is spacey, but at the same time grounded. Most of the songs on the album invoke this very surreal and moody feeling, yet are so beautifully composed. Sometimes I can’t help but hear some similarities to Stereolab in regards to the percussion, arrangement and vocal styling. It’s the perfect album to listen to on a rainy day when you are just in the mood to chill out and relax.

You can check out more of his tunes at his bandcamp page as well as pick up the album.

enjoY!
