Almamy

I’m sure many of you who read this blog know that twitter is a great way to discover new artists/music and that is what happened yesterday. I get twitter follow request (@jemex if your interested) from this guy I never heard of called Almamy. Checked out his twitter page and realized he was a musician who had some pretty interesting electro-pop tunes that I thought I would share it with you today.

Born in 1982 in Dakar, Senegal, Almamy started out as a dancer and an actor in his early teens performing locally until he won a scholarship to study and dance in Paris in the late nineties. After relocating to New York in 2002, Almamy found himself immersed in the club scene and writing songs. This led to Collaborations with producers Peter McLean (D1 Music) and Mike Degen (RuPaul, Heavy D) and eventually led him to team up with guitarist and programmer Nick Holmes where he was able to produce some original tunes.

The thing that makes Almamy different from the rest is his unique vocal sound. The way he describes it is as “a girl who sounds like a boy who sounds like a girl who sounds like me”–and that is so true, the sound is uber falsetto. At first listen you can’t decide if you like it, but then as you continue to listen and hear the awesome electro-pop beats that are underneath it you cant help but to realize that they are a perfect match.

I let you guys decide if you like it, but my advice to you is to listen to a few of the songs and I’m sure you will enjoy it.

enjoY!
