Yael Meyer is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Los Angeles. Born in Chile, she started dancing and singing at a young age, and was later accepted to the Berkley School of Music in Boston where her passion took off.
In 2004 she release her debut EP, Common Ground () to great fanfare. She is now following up with that debut with her latest EP, Heartbeat.
Heartbeat was recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Bill Lefler (Ingrid Michaelson, Tim Myers, Fall Out Boy, Gym Class Heroes) and it includes guest appearances by Danny Levin on trumpet (Lenka), Fil Krohnengold on acoustic guitar and accordion (Meiko) and Joseph Karnes on bass (Jesca Hoop).
First off Ms. Meyer has one of the prettiest voices I have ever heard. All 5 tracks of the EP just makes you feel good with her sweet and innocent voice. But that isn’t all that makes this album worth a purchase/listen. Ms, Meyer perfectly blends, folk, pop, indie and electronic in one smooth delectable treat.
Another thing that amazes on this album is that massive talent she has with her musings of different instruments. She plays guitar, bass guitar, percussion, accordion, glockenspiel, keyboards, piano, melodica, ukulele, ocarina throughout different parts of the EP. Check out the tracks “Heartbeat” and “I Wonder How” to truly get a sense of what she can do.
In conclusion, this album is the perfect music to listen to during this changing of the seasons. It lets summer go while bringing the beauty of fall in. Good Job Ms. Meyer.
The Heartbeat EP will be released on Nov. 10, 2009 — go pick it up.
