Album Review: @SpyForHire – Speak in Numbers

Filed Under: Album Reviews, Pop, Rock & Roll

Based in the Atlanta/Columbus GA area, Spy For Hire is comprised of Ryan Rulon on vocals and guitar, Andy Rich on lead guitar, James Salter on bass and Jared Meharg on drums. Formed in 2004, the band has a bond that goes back to Ryan and Andy’s high school days. The band has gained a quick following with their sink-into-your-bones pop/rock sound. They have finally released their full length debut, Speak In Numbers, which was produced by James Salter and mixed by Russ Fowler.

Every track on Speak in Numbers reminds you of how great rock and roll can be when you have the right people rocking together. Drawing influences from My Bloody Valentine, as well as pop acts like Hall & Oates, Madonna and Tears For Fears, their sound is a breath of fresh air in a genre that lately is becoming stale.

While listening to the albums you’ll notice that there’s a lot of rhythmic and mute guitar tones that invoke a lot of that  80’s pop sound. This helps their sound become infectious after only the first track. Huge melodic choruses and shimmering vocals, along with the stellar production work, really polishes out these guys sound.

In a nutshell, Spy for Hire balances the the pop world and rock world very well. They have brought back the good things form the 80’s rock era but refitted it for the new millenia.  They let you experience something that has the potential to be big.–Buy this album, you wont be disappointed,

enjoY!
