I’m an 80’s baby, but my musical experiences didn’t really happen till the 90’s, and I’m sort of pissed I wasn’t born 7 years earlier because there is definitely a part of dance music history I missed. Luckily, I’m at a more riper age now and I can finally check out what I missed out on. One of them was John Morales, a remix god in the dance/house world. After many years, he is finally releasing a compilation of remixes and rarities titled John Morales: The M&M Mixes that anyone who loves dance music needs to hear.
The M&M Mixes is a history lesson in dance music. John formed with the late Sergio Munzibai M+M productions whose output of over 650 mixes is unmatched by any celebrity big name remixers of today. From the Rolling Stones to Gloria Estefan, The Temptations to Hall and Oates, Aretha Franklin to BBE, they all have had the John Morales treatment.
M&M worked together till around 1989 (Sergio passed away in 1991) and John’s solo production projects in the ‘90s included such acts as Debbie Gibson, Brenda K Starr, Denise Lopez, The Thompson Twins, Blow Monkeys, Five Star and Art Of Noise. In 2009 John mixed several releases including the expanded version of Jackson 5 and Marvin Gaye albums.
The double CD, which will be released on January 19, 2010, showcases some of John’s finest works. CD 1 is chock full of classic boogie, cult favorites and unreleased demo mixes, while CD 2 showcases – for the first time – previously unreleased mixes of gems from the legendary Salsoul catalog which include “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” to underground faves Funk Deluxe.
All the remixes featured on this compilation are never before released versions of some of his most influential works with the most credible dance artists of the 80’s. There will also be a limited edition triple vinyl version of the release, 1000 copies only.
