I know we post a lot of dancy, electro, pop, house and hip-hop music here and although those genres tend to be a part of my daily play lists, I wanted to take a moment to introduce you to some Brazilian Bossa Nova or more precisely named Brasileiro, Samba Bossa Nova.

I’m 1/2 Portuguese and although I was born and raised here in the U.S. I have a deep appreciation for pretty much anything connected to Portuguese or Brazilian (Brasilian) culture. I credit the feeding of this appreciation to my college friends (including Miss Bixo), my undying curiosity to learn more about Brazil (Brasil), Latin America and Iberia (Portugal & Spain); after all my major was focused on Latin America, and meu Pai (my Dad) who is so proud of being Portuguese, our history and cultural influences around the world. I wouldn’t be me or have the appreciation for music that I have if it wasn’t for these elements of my life.

This small delve into me brings me to Putumayo World Music. I was introduced to Putumayo about four years ago when my friend Tesfa (iMergeandSee) worked at their corporate offices in NY. The label focuses on world music from, well, all around the world but my favorites are their Brazilian compilations . These albums are full of soothing songs that are authentically Brasilian. They’re smooth and can bring a calming mood to even the most stressful and rigorous day. They’re about beauty, love and joy and make me imagine that I’m sitting on a tropical beach or in some serene enviornment sipping on guarana.

Two of my favorite songs from Putumayo’s Acoustic Brazil compilation are Marcio Faraco’s track Ciranda and Chico Buarque’s track Quando Eu For Eu Vou Sem Pena.

Por favor goste…

Ciranda – Marcio Faraco

Quando Eu for Eu Vou Sem Pena – Chico Buarque

Muitos beijos.
