The rock gods above came down last night to grace us with a mesmerizing/memorable performance from the one an only, The Smashing Pumpkins. Man was this show awesome. The last time I saw them was in 1996 and it was in support of the Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness album-my first concert ever. Fast forward 14 years later and once again I am graced with 2 tickets to see the man himself.

Mr. Corgan and company put on a 2 hour show playing a wide selection of old and new tunes that had the crowd loving it. He opens up with one of his new songs “Astral Planes,” and people go crazy, heavy and loud, only to be follow be “Ava Adore” then a few new ones. Next thing we know he breaks into “Today” and the crowd goes crazy. We all know the words, we are singing them to him. The next highlight was “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” another SP staple that was more of a sing-along then song. Each song was better than the next, and Corgan treated the packed T5 crowd to crazy long solos in each song that really showed you how talented of a guitarist he is. SP closed with an electric version of “Tonight Tonight.” This was the one song I wanted them to play because I love it so much, like usual he rocked the hell out of it.

Next is the encore. He breaks out with hist latest single from the new album, “Freak”, and it sounds even better live, loud and hard. But the last song of the night was the highlight of the show. The song is called “Gossamer” and it is a 8+ minute epic guitar solo jam. Corgan just stood there with his guitar shredding it, it was like the guitar was an extension of his hand. Building it up, breaking it down, making it soft, rocking us hard, he led us on a psychedelic, sonic mind fuck that only ended with smiles and a ringing in our ears.

It was well worth the 14 year wait.
