Clare Burson sent me a track from her new concept album called Silver and Ash. What really caught my attention about this project is that it is a concept album that tells the true story of her Grandmother’s childhood and eventual escape from Germany in 1938.
A classically trained violinist, Burson began playing guitar while studying history at Brown University. She recorded Silver and Ash in Brooklyn with Tucker Martine (R.E.M., The Decemberists, Laura Veirs).
With Silver and Ash Ms. Burson has cleverly weaved an incredible story with her poetic and intimate writing style to make an album that is a great listen. You would think that a story of escaping from Germany is sad and probably depressing during those times, but Clare has managed to make some upbeat tunes while still keeping the story true to heart. Check out that track “I Will/With You” to hear a bit of what to expect on the album when it is released on September 14th.
