The great thing about running a blog is the constant flow of new music that comes my way. Some of its good, some of its bad, but that comes with the game. Sometimes though you get a a little taste of an artist and must know what else they have cooking up their sleeve. This was the case with Brooklyn based producer Alan Wilkis.
I have really been digging the remixes he has put out lately including Yaesayer, Temper Trap, Chester French to name a few. They have the right amount of pop, with the right amount of grooves, and overall, make great tracks to dance to no matter where you are. So, I followed up with him one day asking if he had any original material, and of course he did. I finally got it into itunes this morning and let me tell you, damn, this kid has got some skillz.
Wilkis sent me his sophomore release titled Pink and Purple, the follow up to his 2008 Babies Dream Big. Its a combination of Rick James mixed with Prince, but with a heaping does of modernity, all fantastic. You have 6 disco funk infused electro tracks that will have any person/dancefloor moving. I don’t know what else to say but check out his album, and this super sweet track, “N.I.C.E” below, a prime example of what Mr. Wilkis can do.
enjoY!
