We don’t post much country stuff on BBC, but when we find something we absolutely love, how can we not! So, without any more delay let me introduce you to Billy Roberts And The Rough Riders. Hailing from down under (Australia), Roberts took to music in his early twenties. He was inspired by bands such as Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and Crazy Horse. He further honed his craft by listening to diverse artists such as The Arcade Fire and the Black Keys, incorporating elements from each into his personal songwriting style. All this has led him to create music that is a delicious fusion of country and rock.
Roberts sent us over a few songs to check out and the one we were digging is called “No More Mr. Nice Guy.” As soon as you hit play you know exactly whats coming, from the harmonica intro, and the driving western drum beat, you get a song that talks about Roberts’ personal experiences wrapped in cowboy country twang and hard rocking folk and blues. All these things lead to a unique and refreshing sound that is the perfect music for a long drive down highway with the sun behind your back.
Peep “No More Mr. Nice Guy” below and look for their album, The Last of the Originals, out later this year.
enjoY!
