Jeff! and Chris make up the duo known as UltraChorus. Hailing from the cold, cold city of Minneapolis, they just released their first LP, Ultra-Def. Having put their touch on remixes form the likes of Phoenix, Empire of the Sun, Presets, and more, Ultra-Def is 13 new tracks of original material.

UltraChorus makes electro-pop music, and does it quite well indeed. Taking influences from the likes of The Postal Service, Owl City, and Death Cab for Cutie, their sound is probably similar to Hot Chip, but with a more pop sound. Their music is very melodic and well composed. You’ll find tons of piano melodies, poppin’ hooks and overall fun in all their tracks, even auto-tune (which is used very creatively)

What I liked about this album is the variation in their sound. You can go from a uber pop track like “House Party 5” to a dubbed out track like “Paraset”. What was nice was that even though they convey different types of sounds, their signature is very present in each one. This makes their sound just a little more unique, and the album a little more cohesive.
