We get a lot of different styles of hip hop at BBC, but every once in a while something different, unique and great sounding comes across our way and we cant help but notice. This is how we felt about Barrett Staples, a hip/hop artist hailing from Seattle. He just dropped is debut project, The Prequel to Something EP and we can’y deny it, it’s pretty good.
For the release he teamed up with Itai Music to craft the original, genre-bending beats and well as Kallie Sullivan to help chip in on the vocals. Mr Staples calls it an exploration into the idea of building yourself up and then losing it all – something he knows way to well about — we just call it DOPE. Everything about the EP sounds awesome. The sound is fresh, the rhymes real, the feeling authentic — definitely one for your jukebox.
Stream The Prequel to Something EP below and if you like it you can pick it up from his BandCamp page — and one last thing, don’t forget your pineapple.
enjoY!
