Got some new music to share with you from Melbourne Australia band, Secrets of A Wooden Hut. The band got started when original band members, Heath Mitchell and Scott Murdock got together to bring something back to music that has been missing. They wanted a sound that got back to the roots of what is important in the music industry, something they felt has been lost for a while, making a great studio album.
To complete the mission, the band auditioned several vocalists until they decided to call on the services of an inexperienced singer by the name of Samantha Sharpe. With the band complete they polished off the tracks for the debut 6 track EP, From the Outside.
When you listen to some of the tunes from SOAW you can’t help but notice the powerful, raw rock sound they bring to the table. That, mixed with catchy hook-ridden melodies and soaring guitar riffs makes you think of Paramore mixed with a little bit of Evanescence. Also, there is no doubt that Ms. Sharpe has some true vocal talent. Her voice is crisp and clear and bring the perfect amount of strength, clarity and depth to the minor, haunting melodic melodies laced over distorted guitars and driving drums.
I can’t forget about the the pop songwriting on the EP too. They may be an alt-rock band, but their musical writing skills fall more in that pop genre — It definitely makes their sound much more accessible to a general audience.
