Jay-z is so on top, that he’s changing the digital music world as we go and the RIAA is listening.
Because of Jay-Z’s inked deal with Samsung to distribtute, for free, 1 million copies of his new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, the RIAA has decided to to allow its digital album certifications, be presented upon the actual release data of the album, rather than the old way, after a 30-day waiting period.
“We think it’s time for the RIAA … to align our digital song and album certification requirements. That’s why today we are officially updating this rule in our [Gold and Platinum] Program requirements,”
RIAA Communications and Gold & Platinum Program director Liz Kennedy wrote in a blog post.
If you are wondering if the 1 million copies sold of the album counts towards the gold/platinum certification, wonder no more, according to Billboard, they will not count, JAY-Z will have to wait a few more weeks.
It’s good to know that the RIAA is slowly updating its policies to conform with now upon us digital age of music, hopefully they will continue to evolve and bring the music industry up-to-date with the way we engage with music.
enjoY!
