Austin garage-surf-pop band, La Vega, have just released the first single, “Key West,” from their forthcoming debut, Wave, out on August 13th via Major Nation Records. For living and making music in a city that has no beaches, it still oozes California sun and good times.

About La Vega
La Vega bleeds California sun, summer flings, Fender guitars, bittersweet melody and dripping harmony, hard breakups, and breakup (and makeup) sex. It’s a two-man band, born in the spring of 2012, when Daniel Vega brought his idea for a 60s-pop-inspired surf rock band to multi-instrumentalist Evan Magers in the spring of 2012, thinking that he was enlisting Evan merely to produce an EP. Ah, sweet, naïve Daniel—little did he know that Evan, who’d recently moved from California to Austin to play keys in and produce the debut record for the indie-folk band Wild Child, had much bigger ideas in mind.
Although their nom de guerre is taken from the drummer’s Tarantino-esque surname, La Vega is all singer/songwriter/guitarist/keyboardist/producer Evan Magers’ heart, soul, and balls on the guillotine. After helping Daniel record a few of his fledgling guitar and drum ideas in his home studio one afternoon, Magers, without so much as an ounce of permission, took the bull by the horns right away, writing, arranging, and recording the first three La Vega songs by the next morning. To add insult to injury, he decided that the name of the freshly stolen band should be La Vega, instead of Daniel’s idea for a band name, [redacted]. For the record, Daniel has come to feel neither insulted nor injured about any of this.
La Vega’s debut album, Wave, will be released this summer on Major Nation Records. It’s a big, ambitious record, 13 songs tied together by themes of summer, nostalgia, young love and love lost, getting drunk with your friends and trying your damndest to get laid, and the more-often-than-not perfectly futile attempt to make some sense out of it all.
