The story of Le Concorde goes something like this. Multi-instrumentalist, Stephen Becker, left his beloved Chicago for the west coast waves, a decision that had a direct impact on his forthcoming LP, House.
After self-releasing an EP in 2004, Le Concorde soon became a steady rotation on XM Radio’s XMU and was rapidly picked up by NYC’s March Records. This led to Villa, an LP released in 2005, followed by Suite in 2007. With his latest dwelling, House, Mr. Becker decided to move away from his lo-fi melancholic ballads and make a more intricate type of record with help from his teenage musical hero, composer/engineer David Gamson. What came out was a thinking person’s pop record if you will, laced with enough dance floor ready beats to get any party going
While listening to the album, I have to say the best way to describe it is 80’s new wave mixed with 90’s alternative rock songwriting, all tweaked with production techniques of the naughties that sparkles at just the right moments. The vocals are crisp and clean, the beats catchy and there are so many hooks on the records that you can not help but love it. He makes good use of harmonies to accent the right places while mixing it with ambitious sonic detail creating these dreamy, feel-good pop songs laced with a dash of nostalgia.
Some tracks that did it for me were “Cherry Blossoms,” the lovely 2 step ballad called “Kisses with Comet Tails” and personal favorite, “New Day,” which takes a 90’s trip-hop vibe and adds this lazy, dirty bass to create this contrasting, dream feeling
Indie dance is the name of the game and Le Concorde is up there. I’m really lovin’ the album. You can stream the full album below as well as pick it up when it is released on October 26th. If you can’t wait till the then, head on over to his website and download the first two tracks off the album for FREE!!!

80s meets 90s? I can see that. 1980s a-ha meets 1990s forgotten-about a-ha. Bloody dross, mate.
