Trent Reznor’s (NIN) latest project comes in the form of How To Destroy Angels (HTDA). This new project consists of  Reznor, his wife Mariqueen Maandig and producer Atticus Ross who meld a mix of indie, alternative and electronica in a pop style format.

I was taken back by the sound of HTDA at first. I thought it was going to be more along the lines of NIN, but I was completely wrong. The overall sound of the album is dark and moody, often times very spacey and ambient (“A Drowning”), but then others times he changes the mood up and adds glorious amounts of rock  with dance beats (“Fur Lined”). One thing I’m really digging about HTDA is  Maandig’s voice, it’s very minimalistic reserved and haunting which works perfectly with the sound HTDA is going for. Fear not you NIN heads, there is tons of that signature NIN production work Trent is known for on the album.

The EP from How to Destroy Angels is now available for free download on the HTDA website. The six-song set is being delivered as 320 kbps, DRM-free MP3s, but for $2 more, you can upgrade to the HD package, which adds options for lossless audio (24-bit 44.1kHz WAV and 16-bit FLAC and Apple Lossless). The CD version will be out July 6 with the vinyl release in the near future.

enjoY!
