Man, Coachella was a blast.

It all started at 7pm on Thursday April 15th, we (me, my girl Michelle and our friends Bryan and Marisa) arrive at our gate with 5 minutes to spare (spent too much time at the bar). Since we arrived late, Delta thought that we wouldn’t be on  the flight, so they gave up some of the seats that we had to the standby flyers. As I am walking onto the plane, I see the guy who has my seat. He gets kicked off the plane, which was nice, and I enjoy a 5.5 hour trip to the hell of a place called LA. After arriving in LA we rent a car from Fox Rent-A-Car (Never rent from these people). We drive to Michelle’s friends place to pick up some green crack (don’t think that needs much explaining). After acquiring those delectable treats we made our way to the Wal Mart right outside of LA to buy some necessities.

Apparently California has a law stating that you can’t buy alcohol after 2 Am. They never told us this, so when we were on line at around 2:10 AM the lady at Wal Mart took our beer away and told us that we can’t buy  till 6 Am. Man were we pissed. With no beer on our hands for the 3 day trip we start getting antsy and searching for a solution. None come to mind and we decided to drive the other hour and a half to the festival site. As luck had it, I had gotten really tired from driving all this time as well with the flight and still being on NY time. So, its around 430 Am and we are in Palm Springs, I think to myself, hey what if we just drive to the Wal Mart in Palm Springs and pick up beer at 6? My entourage agrees with me and we then proceed to make our way to the Wal Mart parking lot where we catch a quick sleep. We wake up at 6, buy a shitload of beer and liquor then head to the campsite

The Coachella site is in the middle of the desert on a big polo field. We get into the camp site and they check our Jeep. They didn’t find anything and we then made our way to the camp spot. As we were pulling up our neighbors were also there and we made friends. Really cool group from LA and another couple from Colorado. After a good amount of drinking and some green crack, we decide it’s time to go check out the festival grounds. Boy was it pretty. There is a big ferris wheel,  5 stages and tons of art installations.

Our first act is Passion Pit who are absolutely amazin’ live. I was quite surprised by how well their music translated from the record to the stage, Bravo Passion Pit. After PP was Pretty Lights who has some skillz. This guy know how to work a crowd. His beat wizardry had all the kids jumping and with the crazy lasers/lights in the Sahara Tent, how could you not stay. Next came LCD Soundsystem, which, contrary to everybody else, I didn’t like. His sound became so monotonous on each consecutive song that when James Murphy added his speak-singing lyrics I began to fall asleep. LCD plays a few tracks from the new album, including “Drunk Girls”, but overall I was not very impressed. (Oh, he did have a huge disco ball on stage which was cool)

After LCD we caught a part of Vampire Weekend, but listened from a far. Last but not least was the Brooklyn king himself, Jay – Z. Like Usual he rocked the crowd, performed all his classic from the past to the present and had the whole crowd singing. When he did “Empire State of Mind” he brought out a fake Alicia Keys who surprisingly sounded like the real one. Halfway through the set we left because I was falling asleep due to being up for 36 hours (I’m not 20 anymore). I did hear he brought out Beyonce later on in the show, but i couldn’t keep my open.

Back to the camp for a few beers then passed out.. stay tuned for day 2

enjoY!
