A lot of times, I get emails from artists saying that their sound falls into the genre of electro-punk/rock, but often times that is the furthest thing from the truth, probably just a marketing ploy, or rather, they don’t know what they are talking about. So when I got this EP from Infight called The Discoland, I was thrilled because it really is electro-punk/rock in its truest form.
At first listen you can tell that this German band, led by frontman Shorty McPimp (no kidding), mashed the 2 genres together quite well and at times reminded me of The Rapture, but with a lot more punk. They really invoke the punk spirit. They take the punk sounds of the 70’s as well as tons of grunge from the 90’s to give you what you what they call discopunk. Even the lyrics invoke the punk-rock feeling by singing about the sick sad little world we live in. The riffs are hard, infectious and full of so much energy that you will want to jump into the nearest pit and thrash away. There are only 5 songs on this EP, but it has tons of feeling, angst, edge and in my opinion captures the true spirit of punk. Good job Infight!
