What to say about the new Hot Chip album… well, its no The Warning, and i cant say it’s a Made in the Dark, what i can say is that the trend has been going down for Hot Chip, and their latest work, One Life Stand, I feel proves that even further. Don’t get me wrong Hot Chip definitely ushered in the wave of electro pop that is high and mighty these days, but with One Life Stand there is just something missing. Maybe its becasue they moved away from tracks that rely heavily on electronic instruments, or maybe they are just running out of gas. Whatever the reason may be, the album just didn’t resonate with me.
I felt the album had no depth. A lot of the tracks had very few instruments, but are built up and down progressively throughout the taking out or adding in when necessary. I also wanted to hear some more dancefloor friendly tunes to keep their excitement going through the album, but what I got was chill, laid back, melodramatic tracks.
Definitely check out tracks like “Take It In”, “”One Life Stand, and “We Have Love” once their sound starts to move toward those faster paced dance tracks, you get that Hot Chip effect.
