With a not-so-new tune, but she’s back! M.I.A.’s video for “Bad Girls”, which appeared on her Vicki Leekx mixtape is out. Directed by Romain Gavras, who directed her video “Born Free”, “Bad Girls” features lots of car stunts, gyrating, and desert. Good stuff.

The wait is over – Afrojack and fellow Dutch artist Eva Simons have released the video to their hit song, “Take Over Control”. While the song is amazing (especially its extended version), the video leaves much to be desired. The songs great lyrics provided enough visuals for the director to go on: “Let’s go take a ride in your car/I will take the passenger seat.” I wanted to see that – Eva and Afrojack riding in a car on the open highway at twilight or whatever, but instead we get Eva with Lady Gaga “Telephone”esque background dancers hanging out in a schoolbus in the desert (equally Lady Gaga “Telephone”esque in its irony) and Afrojack making an appearance in two, maybe three scenes.I still love the song and I’m a fan of both Eva and Afrojack and I’m looking forward to more things from both of them.

The British-Sri Lankan rapper has released a new electropunk inspired track entitled, “Boooooorn Free“, from her upcoming third album which is due to be released on 29 June 2010. After the release of her amazing 2007 album, Kala, M.I.A. has been much more visible to mainstream audiences. Her song “Paper Planes” was used in the trailer for the film Pineapple Express in 2008 which led to Jay-Z and T.I. using a sample of it in their Grammy nominated song, “Swagga Like Us”. M.I.A. subsequently performed the track with the rappers at the 2009 Grammys, just days away from giving birth to her first child. She was also featured on the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack on the song “O…Saya” which was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song.

Following the birth of her son, M.I.A. had been devoting a lot of her time to recording her third album and managing her record company N.E.E.T. Recordings which has musical acts Sleigh Bells, Blaqstarr, and Rye Rye on the roster. She also recently signed on a visual artist Jaime Martinez onto N.E.E.T. and commissioned him to do some 3D photographs for her. You can see one of his photos above. Dope.

The Fire and Reason have always given fans a reason to love them. After months of waiting, they have released their highly anticipated first music video “Do It Again” and I am jumping up and down in my office while listening to it.

The video has the look and feel of a live DVD where the cameras follow the band around as opposed to an ultra-polished Lady GaGa number and that’s what makes this video rad. The Fire and Reason are a band that have a solid sound and can actually rock hard live. This video encapsulates their journey from underground New York City band to Artists on the Brink of Fame and here they demonstrate their performing talents and who they are as artists – it’s a wonderful way to introduce the world to the inner makings of TFaR.

If this is what TFaR has given us in 2009, we cannot wait to see what they have in store for us in 2010.

After their first collab on “Flashing Lights” by Kanye (a dark video also), Spike Jonze and Kanye have decided to work on another video as a project for the song “See You In My Nightmares/ We Were Once A Fairy Tale.” Who knows what was going through their heads when they came up with the concept, but one thing is for sure, Kanye is definitely able to mock himself, which for him, is a good thing.

I have a new music video form Bobby Evans’ (half of L.A. hip-hop duo Brother Reade) smash hit “Freak-A-Zoid Robotz”, directed by Marcus Herring.

The song is inspired by a truly obscure cut from deep in the Delicious Vinyl catalog: an electro-bass number called “The Fine Line Between Hyper And Stupid” that appeared on the b-side of Tone-Loc’s 1990 single “I Got It Going On.” The song has crazy 8-bit synth arpegiators going on and a deep basslines. Not to mention the amount of vocoders use on the track. Its like being thrown into chaos, and you have to make your way out.

The video on the other hand is crazy – Picture Tron meets arcade games, meets Daft Punk. The video focuses around these two female “robots” who are wearing masks that look like a combination of Daft Punk and Ironman. While they are roaming about, the other people are being transported in and out of 8-bit arcade games where they actually become part of the game. Very much like Tron. That’s all I’m gonna say about it, you just need to watch it for yourself.
