So, if you have played GTA 5, you may have heard this song while busting some heads. It’s a song called “Sleepwalking” by The Chain Gang of 1974. I took my hand at remixing the track since I was really taken back by it.

About I am Lightyear
The ability to reinvent yourself takes talent, without a doubt, both because it requires enough skill to remake your persona and enough courage to let go of who you were before. Lightyear, the brand new electro-pop baby of Lauren Zettler, is the product of such talent in action. Lightyear combines stark, popping electronics, warm, bouncing basslines and Zettler’s own airy vocals, to create a sound that’s both human and intangible—filled with space and feeling. It’s strong music that addresses vulnerability while revering strength, in the great tradition of Emily Haines and Patty Griffin.

“It Beats” is a song about how even when you know you need everything to be different, you can rely on the fact that your heart can be trusted and will keep on beating. It might seem like a tried and true theme—trust yourself, everything will be okay—and it is. Zettler draws her songwriting inspiration from such classic pop composers as Billy Joel and Elton John, neither of whom were strangers to themes of the heart, but her lush instrumentation makes the tunes more than just love songs. “Home” is another such example. Zettler once again takes the form—the break-up song—and adds her own twist, both through a driving guitar line and swirling keyboards and through her philosophical look at something so sad and simple as being absent and present at the same time, disappearing from someone’s life but knowing you’re still there.

Lightyear is true to its name. The songs are filled with space and sound that’s bright as light, and they all take on a shape that’s much larger than just their lyrics and arrangements. They pull from themes of change and heartbreak that are without a doubt familiar to everyone, and tap into that feeling you always forget about until you’re in it again. The feeling that everything is open and your life seems to be made of nothing and capable of everything at once.

Hey guys, I know it has been a while since I have updated the site, but fear not, the posts will start to come back, especially as we near our 3 year anniversary!!!

I return today with this sweet remix I just finished for Foster the People’s last single “Helena Beat.” The versions that were submitted for the contest they ran (which I missed the deadline for) sucked , so I took it upon myself to turn this catchy track into a stellar club track.

Check out the latest single from BoomBoomChik favorite LexiconDon. The Tune is called “Set Sail” and can best be described as a heartfelt synthpop singalong. R&B influences make their way into the track with a big chorus that feels like a summer anthem and an intimate ballad at the same time.

Included with the single are remixes from Only Children, Fiero, Worship, Flash Mode, and yours truly, Jemex. Each remix takes the track in a different direction and the best part, they all are free.

@AdamsCastle Set to Release Remix Album

After puttting out a stellar album, Vices, earlier this year, Brooklyn instrumental rock band, Adam’s Castle, has decided that a few of the tunes on the album needed the remix treatment. They asked select producers to re-work some of tracks in order to give a different perspective on their music. This became Serve Six Mice and will be released through Triple Down Records on April 1st.

As a special treat Triple Down Records is letting you download the album for free from their Soundcloud page until April 1st.

Loving Jemex so much that I had to post this other tune I found called “Stay Or Go”. This track is on the hip-hop/pop side and features the Cee-lo esque vocals of newcomer Dean Gray. Definitely can see the diversity this producer has and I’m liking it.

If his other tracks are anything like this one, then I think we have something on our hands.

Like a Star (cover)

When BoomBoomChik’s writers Jemex and Radio Morillo aren’t blogging, tweeting, Facebooking and working 9-5, they are somewhere reviewing, interviewing, or going through submissions. After all that’s done, they get inspired and make music.

That happened to me last night post England v Germany and Argentina v Mexico. Germany and Argentina won (YAY!) all but solidifying my theory that the two of them will be facing off in the final match of the World Cup. I didn’t mourn the loss of a team – though team USA was a loss – so I didn’t have to go through the motions of feeling failed or cheated.

It was super hot in my aunt’s apartment yesterday and what does one do in the sweltering heat? Chill out and listen to chill music. Or sing chill music while messing around with webcam settings. When that happens, you get a song cover of Corinne Bailey Rae‘s 2006 hit “Like a Star” that looks as if it were directed by the makers of Etch-n-Sketch, which is what happened to me.

There will always be tedious busy work but there will always be songs to cover and sites like YouTube to post them on. Amen for chill, sweltering hot Sunday afternoons.
