Andy Caldwell is a songwriter, producer, classically trained pianist and trumpeter, remixer, DJ and label owner (of the recently re-launched Uno Recordings). He has also made a name for himself as a remixer of both underground heroes (Narcotic Thrust, Hani) and mainstream icons (Bee Gee’s, Jennifer Lopez) and received notoriety for his “unofficial” bootleg of Nirvana’s “Come As You Are.”

Now a days,, times are tough and often music reflects these times. Andy Caldwell has done just that. He has made a sound to match these troubled times.. and he calls it Obsession.

In the past, Andy Caldwell was been producing soulful, sun soaked house music from his home base in San Francisco, but on this latest album he has made a tougher sound that is influenced from the electro/dance sounds of Europe.

The 11 tracks found on the album show how talented Mr. Caldwell is when adding some pop to his bass heavy, elctro/dance music. In the same vein as David Guetta, (prob even better in my opinion) all 11 tracks will get your attention, and your ears will be thoroughly pleased. To show how far he has come, Andy has this to say about the album,

“My sound has been changing over the last few years,” Caldwell says. I got more into the electronic sound with the European house scene and wanted to express that in an album. I was really feeling stagnant creatively and broke out of the soulful house shackles about a year ago.”

Mr. Caldwell recruited many artists to collaborate on this album including the likes of Mr. V (Strictly Rhythm, MAW Records), Gram’ma Funk (voice of Groove Armada’s “I See You Baby”) and emerging talents Storm Lee, Femke, Mr. J. Madeiros and Alexander Skye

Track highlights include the incredibly infectious “Its Guud” (ft. Mr. V) with its minimal beat and Mr. V smooth verses, the house grooving “Fear My Pride” (ft. Gina Rene) and the Akon styled “Scream”

Obsession will drop digitally on October 20 and on CD November 3

Tracklisting
—————————
1. Black Diamond Sky (feat. Storm Lee)
2. Obsession
3. It’s Guud (feat. Mr. V)
4.
What I like about this duo is the careful way they compose their beats. You can tell its is a very meticulous process that one must sit down an just listen to to truly grasp all that is going on under that thumping house kick. Its like IDM but with a tinge of pop. Check out an original production as well as a remix they did for French producer Super Commodore.

Electro-house pioneer D. Ramirez (Dean Marriott) has been in the game for a while. He’s achieved five top 20 hits and was awarded Best Remix and Best Producer in DJ Magazine’s 2007 awards.

But in the past few years he has taken a step back from that life to concentrate on a new sound that draws on the sounds of deep house and techno.

Working in his studio in the UK, he has just finished his latest track, “Satur8” which truly shows the new direction he is going with his sound. His tracks are made for the club and this one is no exception. At times it feel very epic and just makes you want to move your body in any way possible.

Besides working on his new tracks, he is set to do a mini tour (tour dates below) across North America in August. A rare treat as he doesn’t come here all the time.

If you cant make it to one of his shows, then definitely check out his latest mixtape he has posted, it is quite a treat.

The kids over at Binary really know what people want to hear, so it was no surprise that i fell in love with the new track they sent from LexiconDon.

With some production work from LA producer Fabian, Hollywood Sound opens with a great 8-bit synth line that catches you automatically, and when the vocals come in your sold. The dirty basslines underneath the track give it that electro vibe that all the kiddies like. Excellent track overall.

Finally got a a chance to listen to the latest LP from Brooklyn producer/remixer Mr. Vega, and all I have to say is that all you electro-heads out there… pick up this album, you will not be disappointed.

On this album you have 12 electro house tunes that will get the kiddies jumping all night long. Each track is as powerful as the next. With dirty scorching basslines, chopped vocal snippets, and synths galore, Mr Vega has truly put together an awesome album.

Some of my favorites were the electro hip hop track “Blackout” (reminds me of bounce by MSTRKRFT) and the chilled out, but still grinding track “Metal Sparks.” Also on the the album are 4 remixes from Jemex, Radio Krome, Lapse and Interweb Kidz

So the moral of the story is, go get your glow sticks, download a free copy of his album and practice your raving in your bedroom, then hit the club.

EnjoY!

New remix from UK remixer/producer Sidechains. He is bringing back the 90’s by remixing Blue Pearl’s Naked in the Rain–considered to be a classic example of early house music (track was released in 1990)

Sidechains has remixed the track to bring the current house sound to Durga McBroom’s beautiful, soulful vocals. What I like about the mix is that he keeps some elements of early house music such as the piano stabs you hear in the background throughout the whole mix. Besides the modern house sound, he has added some disco-esq strings/bass to give it that little extra something that everyone can groove to.

This is house music for the 21st century.
