Listen: The Felix – Still Holding On

BoomBoomChik — Sun, 25 Jun 2017 21:12:49 +0000

NYC duo, The Felix, burst onto the scene last year with their debut single, “Coming Back” and have not not stopped. Composed of lifelong friends Jeffrey James and Blake Skipper, the two decided to make it their mission to give people something that they can relate to, a musical experience that combines influences of synth pop, indie rock and r&b.

We got to take a listen to the new single, “Still Holding and we were big fans. The Robyn-esq vibe reminds me of a nostalgic 80’s credits song but with some fresh 2017 updates. The arpeggiated bass lines with those dreamy, luscious synth chords really helps ground the track and provides steady aural pleasure form start to end. The other thing I was digging was storytelling the duo has going on in the track, it may be a little sappy, but it’s a good a type of sappy.

Peep the track below and leave your thoughts in the comments. If you like you can pick it up from your favorite digital retailer.

enjoy!

Opien Your Ears

Jemex — Mon, 14 Jul 2014 15:08:04 +0000

What better way to start your week off then with some fresh new tunes. This week we bring your Berlin Based Opien. Formed in 1999 by producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Niko Stoessl, Opien is a project of various musical and visual artists sharing the vision to collectively create and inspire.

They recently released their 2nd album, Atlanta, which finds Stoessl and Christian Eigner (of Depeche Mode) sculpting a sound that touches on the the past 1980’s eaa while making something that can be listened to in the future decades to come. On this album the duo strived to create a pure distinctive sound that combines Eigner’s driving drum beats paired with cascading synth and guitar arrangements with Stoessl’s smooth, unique vocals leading your down a sonic path.

They sent us over the video to the single form Atlanta called “Let Me Down” and it is an excellent electro-pop tune that will get under your skin. Well crafted dance beats accent the excellent synth work found throughout the track and I have to admit that that synth hook in the very first seconds of the song is catchy as f*Ck.

Peep the “Let Me Down” video below and let us know what you think in the comments. If you dig it, then you will definitely like every other track on Atlanta which can be found at your favorite digital retailer.

Single: JMI – Kix

Jemex — Mon, 26 May 2014 14:46:31 +0000

NYC artist/producer, JMI, makes another big entrance with her latest extremely catchy, high-energy single, “Kix”– a song about everyone’s favorite accessory. We’ve been big fans of this electro-pop talent since she first came onto the NYC music scene some years back. Having migrated between Brooklyn and the LES to follow her passion, she has been in the studio the last few months recording and mixing “Kix” to perfection.

“Kix” is the type of song that will sweep you away to a non-stop dance party where infectious synths move and flow with the song. JMI enhances the non-stop energy of the track by adding her sultry vocals, driving dance beats and a gritty, electro bassline that glues the whole song together. All of these things build up and lead you to an anthemic hook that that you will be signing all week — dancing too.

On the b-side, JMI does a total 180 and switches it up with “Amanda,” a downtempo jam that lets you get inside this artist’s head. The haunting track is sexy, chill, vulnerable, yet strong, leaving you not knowing quite what to call it as she explores her sultry crooning and downtempo beats. If one thing is for sure, JMI is definitely bringing a new sound to the electro-pop game and should be one to look out for in 2014.
