After much craziness and preparation, the DIY-inspired video for “The Sea” off of Love Language is now out for your viewing pleasure. The video features footage shot on LomoKino by British Malaysian filmmaker Ari Abraham and animation from Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s open source production company, hitRECord.

So how long has it been since I posted something on BBC? Too long if you ask me. However, I have come out of retirement to share with you this awesome new band I was introduced to in the interim called South South Million.

Hailing from Detroit MI, this duo (with the help of some other talented musicians) creates a sample heavy, jazzed influence, lo-fi sound that truly mesmerizes you from beginning to end.

Besides having this wicked awesome sound going on,  they are set to release their latest album, Wind Hand Caught In Door, on Brooklyn’s awesome indie label, Triple Down Records, on March 6th.

If you want to get a taste a of what these guys got, peep the teaser video they sent over to us that combines snippets of tunes from the album mixed with beautiful images od Detroit.

Esperanza Spalding may have won the Grammy Best New Artist award last year, but the jazz artist is poised to have a big year ahead. She performed at the Academy Awards this past Sunday and her next studio album, Radio Music Society, will drop next month. A conceptual short film was created with each song and was filmed in NYC, Portland, Oregon, and Barcelona. Check out the video for “Black Gold”, above.

Here is the latest single from Blind Benny, aka Jade + Jonathan Carmelli. “No Honor”, off of their forthcoming No Honor EP. The hauntingly beautiful track features Jade at her most nuanced and its an overall very well done track.

Our boy TheROAR has singlehandedly brought “sMashup” into BoomBoomChik’s lexicon and he’s been going hard with them since last summer. This latest installment brings two FAVES – Nirvana and SKRILLEX – into one. Best thing about TheROAR’s sMashups – he rearranges, re-records, performs and sings the songs in a studio. Not your average person just mashing up a song on a laptop!

With a not-so-new tune, but she’s back! M.I.A.’s video for “Bad Girls”, which appeared on her Vicki Leekx mixtape is out. Directed by Romain Gavras, who directed her video “Born Free”, “Bad Girls” features lots of car stunts, gyrating, and desert. Good stuff.

Here’s a jam that I can’t stop listening to – Die Antwoord‘s “I Fink U Freeky”, off of their upcoming album Ten$ion. Yo-Landi Vi$$er’s purr-like, almost creepy vocals – “I fink u freeky/And I like you a lot” – paired with the video game-like synths make for one catchy record. Looking forward to hearing what South Africa’s musical export has in store for us next!
