Imagine being a grown ass man and getting invited to DJ at your younger cousin’s high school skipping party in the fall of 2009. Aight, cool. Now imagine coming prepared with some house, techno and other electronic type music only to find that the kids at this party want to listen to bachata and reggaeton. What is a man to do?

DC based DJ Dave Nada found the answer and it is “moombahton”. Named after Chuckie’s 2009 hit “Moombah” with some reggaeton on the side, moombahton slows down Dutch house beats to sync up with some reggaeton and dembow-inspired beats. The result is a mocha coconut frappucino – I mean, heaven.

Sure, I kicked myself in the ass for not knowing about moombahton sooner, but this infant genre is just starting to take off and leave the world marveling at another morsel of goodness that was created by two very unlikely genres being combined for our party pleasure. And for this, I am pleased and I forgive myself just a lil bit.

Since Nada unleashed moombahton on the scene, there are many other producers who are starting to experiment and leave their mark on the sound. But since this is a back-to-basics type of post, we’ll start it off with the song that started it all.
