We got our hands on The Sunshine Factory’s sophomore release, Sugar, a few weeks before it’s set to drop next month – let’s talk about it.
The first track, Down, sets the tone for the rest of the album and takes us back to a better time when psychedelic rock was thriving and LSD was practically free (or so I’m told; I wasn’t there). The heavy moaning guitar is a welcome, reoccurring theme found on almost every track of Sugar, somewhat reminiscent of the psych forefathers of the mid-sixties and shoegaze bands of the eighties.
TSF’s dream-pop side is on display later in the album on My Sugar Cane. Surrounded by songs that boast mostly apathetic vocals, this one stands out with a little extra pop.
TSF’s mix of shoegaze-psych-pop comes together well on Sugar. I don’t drive but I imagine this is good road music – definitely worth a spin.
Sugar is set to drop on December 14th, 2010.
