Pimps of Joytime

Headed over to Brooklyn Bowl last Friday to check out The Pimps of Joytime, and the experience was awesome. Apparently they were playing two sets, a earlier one and a later one, we got there right at the beginning of the earlier one and within seconds we were dancing.

A 5 piece full live band, they are equal parts Prince, Sly and the Family Stone and Latin-Soul.  Brian J (Who sort of looks like Prince) is the band’s ringmaster along with Chauncey, Jesse and Mayteana. He started Pimps in Brooklyn back in 2005, where they started off playing clubs in Williamsburg and the East Village.

Mixing samples and dance beats with tasty live instruments and creamy vocal harmonies their sound is verty easy to groove to. They all mesh together really well which added to the experience, after a few minutes the songs were stuck in your head.

There is no doubt that the Pimps of Joytime are on their way up. Their sound is unique as it comes and they put on a damn good live show, def worth my $5.

enjoY!
