Exclusive: Young Punx Release 2 New Tracks From Their Forthcoming Album

We got some fresh, new, exclusive material from the Young Punx to share with you on this lovely Friday. If  you don’t know about the Young Punx already, then you need to check them out ASAP and the fresh sound they’re bringing to the electronic scene.

From London, The Young Punx are an eclectic electric collective of London-based musicians with diverse musical backgrounds, headed up by maverick multi-instrumentalist Hal Ritson. They are in demand as remixers, producers, DJs and a band. They draw on breaks, rock, hip hop, electro and even pop to create their own unique and un-genrefiable sound–A true mash-up. They have released one album, Your Music is Killing Me, that received praise from the press as well as airplay on some of the Uk’s most popular radio stations. With one LP behind them they are gearing up to release their 2nd LP titled Mashpop & Punkstep.

Since the LP won’t be available till early next year, the YP decided that they needed to wet your musical appetite in the meantime and have thus released a double A-side single which contains 2 original tracks from the forthcoming album.

The first track, “Simple Pleasures”, brings a fast-paced punch with its 70′s punk-rock intro that morphs into a d&B beat and then rolls back to punk. Vocals are courtesy of Laura Kidd and Yolanda Quartey who really capture that quintessential punk sound with its love-based lyrics, catchy hooks and background harmonies.

The 2nd track, “Like Dat (ft. Count Bass D)” takes the Young Punx sound in a different direction. Bringing a murky dub/hip hop production with some Memphis rap, courtesy of Count Bass D, the track has tons of guitars laced throughout and an amazin’, screaming solo near the end, courtesy of guitar legend Guthrie Govan.

After listening to these 2 tracks, I can see why the YP named the album Mashpop & Punkstep and if these 2 tracks are any indication of what is to come from the new album,  then it is one to anxiously wait for.

enjoY!
