It’s amazing how I find new music sometimes. Yesterday morning we received a random and a tad sketchy e-mail from Benny Blanco containing a link to his mix of Santogold’s “I’m A Lady”. After my first listen, I was hooked. I researched Benny, and spoke with him via Gchat this morning. He’s co-produced songs for the likes of Britney, Missy Elliot, Katy Perry, Ciara and much much more. Check out his latest mix of Miike Show’s song “Burial”.

Cut back to last night where in researching Benny, I came across Neon Hitch whom Blanco has also produced tracks for. Neon Hitch hails from London and was also flat mates with Amy Winehouse. She describes her music as “pop/folk/other” and credits her influences to Nelly Furtado, MJ, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, India Aire and many more. Her songs, filled with meaningful messages, reel you in from the first beat. The production on these tracks are impeccable and the sound flows through you. It’s been a while since I’ve had such a connection with a song. Below, I’ve chosen for you two of my favorite Neon Hitch Songs. “Black and Blues” which is about rising beyond those who put you down and “Piece of Shit” which is about standing up to and telling a boyfriend, who is superficial and constantly puts her down, that, well, he’s a Piece of Shit.
