The best way to describe Cougar would be a mix of experimental rock with a dash of electronica. Hailing from different parts of the country, including NYC, Chicago, Austin and Milwaukee, they are prepping to release their 2nd album, Patriot, on August 24th on Counter
The first thing you will notice when listening to their songs is that they love
their guitars. I’m talking about beautiful melodies and riffs on both acoustic and electric guitars that often times remind me of a barer Minus the Bear.
Underneath those guitars they have a steady, but driving percussion that adds a counterpoint to the guitars.
The other thing you’ll notice about their music is that, for the most part, it is instrumental. This is great because there is so much movement and dynamics in their songs that lyrics would only distract from the beautiful sound.
I really would like to hear what rest of the album sounds like, but in the meantime you can listen to their 2nd single, “Stay Famous” as well as a remix of the track by Mike Ladd who tears it down to a raw emotional garage rock feel.
