Music You Need to Hear: Awesome New Republic

Awesome New Republic is a 2-piece indie band from Miami, FL comprised of core members Michael John Hancock and Brian Robertson. Both graduated from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. They self-released their first album ‘Awesome New Republic So Far’in 2005.

After cultivating their sound for the past 3 years as well as a successful 2008 CMJ, the band headed back into the studio to complete Rational Geographic Volume I, the first in a series of 3 volumes to be released in 2009.

The first single from the album is Digital World. The sound they achieved on this track is not your typical indie band. Its a mix of indie rock, but with a touch of electronica, I guess you could call in Inditronica. When you listen to the track you can hear all those little fluttering synths and synthesizer basslines underneath the acoustic guitars and live drums. After listening to it a few times, I can safely say it’s a brilliant track that was produced very well. I’m very interested to see what else is gonna come from Awesome New Republic in the future.

Also check out Panic Bomber‘s remix of Awesome New Republic’s breakout single Birthday, which takes a much dark electro approach –an equally impressive track.

enjoY!
